Mikaela & Patrik – Wedding on Kökar, Åland – vol. 2

weddings

We spent quite some time getting to Kökar, as mentioned in the previous post, and saw the Åland archipelago and its magnificence from a number of angles and Kökar stood out.
It is one big pile of naked gray rock – no beach, bits of forest – but a lot of emotions.
First, the winds that welcome you by blowing from different angles. Then the vistas – one seascape following another, not to mention the tiny little red boathouses that take you right back to childhood and Astrid Lindgren’s story about Tjorven who lived on the island of Saltkråkan. But the biggest emotion was by far the one we received from the warm and fun-loving people of the island, Mikaela and Patrik, their friends and families.

Karoliina & Kimmo – Wedding at Glehn Castle, Tallinn
Last Saturday was the day for Karoliina & Kimmo. I will cut to the chase and say up front that both of them were a bit reserved in front of the camera on their own. I was even getting some nerves on when I got the feeling that they were rushing through the schedule. But you can’t blame them - as it was a bit of a destination wedding for them, coming from Espoo to Tallinn. It was the same story when Sigrid was with Karo on the getting-ready. The first true smile she saw from the bride was when they had a few minutes with her mother to have a glass of champagne before heading for the church. You could see the mother being proud. And it see ...

Rob & Irja’s wedding in rain and sunshine
Robert & Irja's wedding on Aug 9 was in many ways special for us. First, it was on Sigrid's (my lovely assistant) birthday. Second - it was the first time for her as a second shooter on a full-day wedding. She's been of great help on many of my shoots, but not to that extent. And she did quite a job if I say so myself - the bride's getting ready shots for example. Third - it was a lovely wedding, period. What I mean by that is I had the goosebumps (the same as during the actual day) when editing the pics from the reception and speeches, especially Robert's heartwraming speech in Estonian (he is from UK). He had to check the notes and ...

Pia & Joakim – wedding at Bankeryd, Sweden
We’ve never really experienced anything like the last wedding in Bankeryd, Sweden. I’ve said before that Iike to get to know and even become friends with the couple I’m shooting for. But I never thought I’d actually miss being a tiny part of the community they have, helping with a bit of DIY and setting up the venue the day before, seeing the guests arrive. The moment that stopped me in my tracks was when it was about half an hour after midnight. I said to Joakim who had just arrived from the dancefloor with Pia, that if there are no more cigar events to shoot, we’ll be hitting the bed. In reply, among the many thank-you’s, he said - “We’re ...
