At the gym with Mai & Aaro

engagement shoot

Mai & Aaro are obviously not the couch potato type. A look at those abs leaves no doubt. But what made their portrait shoot stand out was that they wanted to have it in the gym. So why not – available light (that needs some support from the trusty silver umbrella), check, various backgrounds, check, something a bit different from the usual walk in the park, check.
Here’s how it worked out (pun intended).

Pre-wedding shoot with Pia & Joakim
On Nov 28 last year I got an email from someone called Pia from Sweden. It was a wedding inquiry like many others. But it would be our first one in Sweden. Fast forward a day or so, with some specifics on travel arrangements etc, Pia is including her husband-to-be - Joakim - in the email thread on the Cc field and then comes something in Swedish: Herreguuuuud vad fint! Jag gråter juuuu här!!!! Vi måste ha dem, vi måste! I know what "Tack!" and "God morgon!" mean, but this was above my skill level. Possibly the last one of this year's pre-wedding shoots - the one with Karo & Kimmo turned out to be definitely amongst the most adventurous. While we did have some indoor locations in mind, we decided to take a risk and have a go at Suomenlinna - the group of islands that spans 3km and is a 15-minute ferry trip away from downtown Helsinki. While Karo & Kimmo sure do have a kind of Nordic calmness to them, we got quite a few laughs and good shots from the session. We were lucky to have some mid-november snow, because if we didn't, the amount of available light at 4 pm would have been... well, non-existent. Which you can't say for the amo ...

Asti, my brother’s GF
Even though she has a personality to die for, I'm really struggling to find the words to describe her. Partly because, yes, I don't want to sound cheesy or corny, but also because the superlative of any positive adjective wouldn't still do justice to her. OK. What I most value about Asti is the way she speaks to people, looking you in the eye as if there is nothing more important in the world that very moment than your ramblings about the weather, lawnmowers, fattening desserts, or anything. She is the favourite of all children alike, never missing a chance for a mini soccer match (even though she is a ballerina, for cryin' out loud!) or r ...
